“I realised I had placed certain limits around myself even when the issue are not about right or wrong. Now I want to try facing things head-on” – Yeji, ITZY
We often don’t realise how the thoughts in our heads can limit what we can really do. These thoughts creep up when we are listening to music on the way home, or walking to school or work. That’s our brain on auto-pilot and it’s often negative and self-referential. When unaddressed or if we fall trap into negative self-talk, that’s when self-limitation begins.

When Small Things Shake You
“Rather than being shaken by small things, I now think more deeply with my own convictions and standards while accepting things more broadly.” – Ryujin
Getting shaken by small things isn’t weakness, its more likely a sign that some issues are not resolved and negative thoughts about it is not processed. Like an insecurity, an old wound, or an impossible standard that was imposed on us.
While we don’t have to pretend that negative situations don’t affect us, addressing them early before they fester would help to free us from nagging bad thoughts.

What This Looks Like in Practice
“I feel like I’m still learning about myself – both my strengths and flaws. It seems to me that my motto shifts every moment. I mean, everyone’s bound to be different in their own way. So I try to live with a mindset of taking things in stride as much as I can.” – Ryujin
Psychologist Susan Kobasa’s research on psychological hardiness shows that people who feel less shaken by daily stressors share three things, commitment to something meaningful, control over your choices, and more importantly, your perspective to challenges. This is what grit and resilience is build on.
Ryujin’s mindset is not to stress over the small stuff, have an open mind about every situation and keep a healthy motto about yourself.
